Sometimes I think "Our View" can't get it right for trying. Take Saturday's "Pooping the Party" for instance. Now I ask you, is that any way to talk about the home boys? Just because the mayor and all but two of the councilors went on all-expenses-paid rest and relaxation to Myrtle Beach, S.C., is no reason to get all fed up over a little ado about nothing. After all of the hard work they do, you'd think the denizens of River City would show some appreciation.
Your editorial went on and on about the good people who are responsible for giving them the high electric rates while whooping it up at a high-end resort on the public's dime. Don't they realize how grueling it is to work up budgets and figuring how to raise service costs?
So how can those ingrates deny dedicated hard working public servants a little fun in the sun with a few mai tais and piña coladas while soaking up some rays? It's a healthy thing and it'll do them a world of good, so that when they return to work they'll be relaxed and raring to get to work. I think it's a win-win situation.
Besides, it seems to me that The Daily Advance is now complaining about the very ones they favored for the last council election. The big issue then was imminent domain. Most of the candidates were for the taking of a little old lady's land because as one candidate said: "It's a good thing." The Daily Advance and the public agreed.
Yeah, they were all for taking from someone else for their own greed but now the takers are the takes and they don't like it. I guess they never heard of the Golden Rule or other maxims like turnabout is fair play or-what goes 'round comes 'round.
