Letter: S.C. trip still spurs questions

Monday, August 25, 2008

Concerning the trip to South Carolina by our elected city officials who used our money for rooms, food and gasoline, I have the following questions:

Why was our money spent in another state?

Why was our tax money spent by our mayor, who is careful about his own money? I have known him since he lived in Virginia Beach, Va. He has been very, very careful about spending his money.

Why do we have to pay for nine people to go to a

conference?

Why can't one person go and videotape the presentations?

Even though I don't live in the city limits, some of the money I pay every month for electric power goes into a slush fund that is tapped whenever Elizabeth City leaders need money. We once fought an eight-year war over this issue.

Elected officials should be told by the people that this is our money, not theirs.
