At what point is the circus over?

The Daily Advance

Friday, November 28, 2008

$400,000 a year is the amount we pay our president to work for us. And in my opinion, all these CEOs of the major corporations who’ve brought their companies to the brink because of their brilliant management skills should not be allowed to make more in salary than the president.

Babe Ruth, the great baseball player, was once asked why he made more money than President Hoover, and he replied, “Because I’d a better year.”

Well the CEOs of today’s big corporations, certainly didn’t have a better year than our president, since they are all in Washington asking for bailouts. And yet, their salaries and bonuses remain in the millions of dollars. How much more shameful can it get!?

At what point do we say, “no more?” At what point will there be a great cry for accountability? At what point do we say, “no more of living on the government dole. No more of living on the sympathy of the taxpayers.” Enough already! The circus is over.

Outstanding commentary Ann!
We the taxpapers are feedup with this exessive abuse of our hard earn money. From the local level on up to the top. No CEO is worth "millions". This is part of the reason our coutry is on the brink of destruction. We need expertise not greed running our major corporations.

Recently someone commented that Sharon Tanner's salary is $400K. Hard to believe that the CEO of our little community hospital makes the same salary as the US President.

When a private company wants government money then that company is going to have to adhere to some government demands. There are always stipulations stuck to government money. This is not a new or socialist concept.

It's called PRIVATE industry not GOVERNMENT industry. I think their salaries are ridiculous too but I'm not for government control of businesses and in case you don't realize it, nationalizing our industries is called socialism and the bailout has started us down that path.

Since when would it be ok for our government to tell a private company how much to pay their employees?
