Fight downtown post office closing

Elizabeth City’s downtown post office is slated to close July 22, unless we can prevent it.

This closing would be a travesty not only for downtown businesses and residents, but for the community in general. A vigorous campaign to keep it open has gathered over 3,500 signatures, but we can do more.

A quick call or e-mail to our legislators, U.S. Sens. Richard Burr and Kay Hagan, and U.S. Reps. G.K. Butterfield and Walter Jones could help turn the tide.

I urge everyone to support keeping the Main Street post office open. We have to show the U.S. Postal Service that we are not nameless, voiceless people in some insignificant little town.
