Regarding a letter-writer’s appeal on Feb. 13 that we all chip in $5 to help secure the area schools, I do applaud Mr. Andy Montero’s concerns and effort.
The demonic actions of that coward at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., shows that locked doors and alarms are no match for bullets.
Such a front-door security system Mr. Montero is advocating for may deter some would-be fame seekers. I will give $5 to an alarm pool, if one exists.
I would much rather give $50 to help sponsor a local teacher in a firearms class, and then hope that he or she would keep it close by without ever having to use it to keep their class — their sheep — safe. Arming some of our teachers just makes sense.
