As one local pundit put it, you don’t always need to take a gun to a gunfight to be successful. Sometimes, he says, all it takes is some gentle persuasion, or more accurately as he puts it: “The gentle art of self-defense.”

I’d be very interested in seeing how he’d handle a madman blazing away with an automatic weapon in a crowded classroom. Perhaps he would be willing to put his theory to the test by conducting a live-fire demonstration by facing off against a killer with an automatic shooting real bullets. Perhaps The Daily Advance could set it up and sell tickets and I’d be one of the first in line watching from behind bullet-proof glass.

Of course the proposed demonstration is meant to be facetious and nothing more, but maybe it can draw attention to the fact that no one has the answer to having crazed killers with automatic weapons slaughtering innocents when and wherever they choose.

Fellow Americans, don’t be stampeded into surrendering your guns and constitutional rights for no good reason. Too much blood and treasure have been spent to acquire and keep these rights. Don’t cave to pressure to give away your rights. Veteran groups need to stand up and be counted now as never before. Let President Obama and the Congress know what to expect if they try to take the guns. Speak up and stand up before it’s too late.
