I attended the recent conversation on guns and gun laws put on by the Twiford Law Firm. The attorneys did a good job explaining the Second Amendment and clarified firearm terms like clips versus magazines and the gun show loophole.

It would be good to have more of these meetings on guns to educate the public. Most of the attendees were pro-gun as far as I could tell.

A recent letter-writer to this paper said “let the people decide” and then we would have saner gun laws. I think she would be surprised how many people own and carry guns in this area without incident. The one accidental discharge at Walmart was a very isolated incident and should not be used to judge all of the safe and legal gun owners in the Albemarle area.

The intent of the founding fathers is very clear. They put in the Second Amendment so we, the people, would have the ability to do what they had just done, overthrow a tyrannical government. I have been a gun owner for 40 of my 50 years and I’ve never even witnessed a violent crime.
