In my humble opinion I think any Catholic cardinal with a questionable past life has no authority or right to go to Rome and case a vote for our next pope.
I believe in my heart that our next pope needs to let the cleansing air flow through Holy Mother Church. If he doesn’t, we may very well see a separate American Catholic Church in 50 years.

I, too, pray for the Catholic
I, too, pray for the Catholic Church and hope they can deal with their problems to their own and the world's satisfaction.
What really surprises me (and I find it very hypocritical), is the liberal media's fascination with the Catholic Church and the Pope. They are anti-religion most of the time. In fact, most of the time they look down on and talk disparagingly of believers. The cynical me thinks that they can hardly wait for the next scandal rather than hope, as I do, that the Church can overcome past scandals and once again become a pillar for the faithful to rely on.
I Think You've Nailed It
I think you've nailed it when it comes to the media appearing to be fascinated with the Pope. They know the documentary is out there and they know it's going to hurt the church and I doubt Ann is truly concerned about the church either. Despite my disgust with the church right now I believe in the end getting this out in the open will cause a good cleansing and will bring the church back to where it should be. Until they do I've walked away from the church. I can't wrap my head around the church not allowing a divorced person to receive communion while at the same time they allow a priest who has molested young boys to give communion. And the Vatican knew what was going on and did nothing to stop it. I think anyone who can should watch the documentary I mentioned in an earlier post. The more people know about this the more pressure will be brought on the church to right itself.

For the first time ever I agree with Ann Bechiom.
The Catholic church needs a complete and thorough cleansing. The documentary Mea Maxima Culpa Silence in the house of God explains it all. Pope Benedict asks that we all pray for him and I will because after what he and others in the church have allowed to be covered up they'll need prayer more than anyone I know. There are bad apples everywhere and the church can't be held responsible for some of the bad apples landing there but what the church can and should be blamed for is doing nothing to rid themselves of the bad apples once they knew of them. Pope Benedict wasn't ignorant of what was happening.

I Agree Ann
We should all pray for God to overcome our human weakness and select His Pope. BTW One does not need to be Catholic to pray for the Pope. The entire Christian body benefits when truly holy people are in positions of leadership.
