Regarding the headline over your April 2 story, “ECSU’s CIAA expenses 40 percent of fundraising total,” let’s be real clear. There is no connection between the funds expended for the 2014 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Basketball Tournament and the $130,000 raised at the Chancellor’s CIAA Breakfast. The breakfast is an initiative created and sponsored by the ECSU National Alumni Association, Inc. For the past 12 years, we have designated our contributions for specific purposes, including scholarships, student recruitment, band and other university programs and projects. Paying the cost of travel for students and support staff is not one of our priorities, although it could be if we decide there is a need for assistance.
