Although we have no children living in North Carolina, we are excited about the efforts of Andy and Karin Montero and couldn’t agree more with the idea of every family donating $5 or more to the school security fund. It’s a lot of security afforded to our schools for a few dollars from each and every family.

But as persons who donate to worthy causes and who have seen funds collected used for purposes other than their intended use, we have several questions. Who will approve the installer bids for these systems? Who will test and approve these alarm systems? Who will be the keeper of the funds raised? Who will have signatory authorization to expend the funds?

We are not trying to put Andy and Karin Montero on the spot. We’re just asking for some safeguards before we donate personally and/or ask veterans organizations we belong to donate as well.
