Letter: Too many loans, not enough jobs

3 Comments | Leave a Comment

This country doesn’t really expect all those student loans to be repaid, does it? Somewhere down the road I see loan forgiveness happening.

Let’s face it. A lot of these students just don’t want to leave home and fend for themselves. They just keep taking courses in subjects that will never get them employment. For a lot of them, it’s just party, party, party.

Of course, a lot of tenured professors in even the best of our universities teach such far-out, leftist garbage that it can be a costly error to even let students enroll.

I admire our local two-year colleges. They at least teach you a trade that you can use to make a living.

If one happens to be very smart, then go to the university. We can never get too many Bill Gates types.

There seems to an epidemic of people taking out loans without the ability to pay for them.

First the housing fiasco where unqualified people were given loans. Student loans.

Where does it end?

What about the GI Bill after WWII?

Thousands of young men and women have received a higher education through the GI Bill; all paid for by the taxpayers; the Federal Government. Today's studen loan program is successfully continuing that trend toward a higher education for those who want to improve their lives. The difference in the two bills is, who pays for this? You are saying, and right now statistics are proving you right, that a large percentage of students loans' have fallen into default. In my opinion, this statistic is a direct result of the 'students' that are participating; some have integrity, others do not. Does that make the student loan program a failure? I submit that it does not. In the end the taxpayers will be supporting the program but at a far lower expense than was spent on the GI Bill. What is the percentage of student loans that have been paid or are being paid? What are the total costs for each program? That will be the final answer. If this country is to compete in a world economy, our educational standing must be improved; we as a nation are falling behind the rest of the world when it comes to scholastic abilities.

Bill Gates

Bill Gates did not finish college. He started a zillion dollar business instead.
