I watched “West Side Story” on Turner Classic Movies recently. It’s an achingly beautiful film about a starkly hideous subject. The subject being, of course, bigotry, and its appalling repercussions. What struck me most about the film (aside from Leonard Bernstein’s ethereal score) is how current it still is. Not the clothes or the slang. They’re hopelessly dated.
