EARL JORDAN (THIEF) - EARLS USED CARS
Never do business with this man. He finds a way to steal from anyone. I recently purchased a vehicle from him in January and have been making bi-weekly payments to him in order to have the truck paid off by June 8th - ONLY 6 MONTHS - I was down to owing him $1700.00 when he shows up at my doorstep to repossess my truck. This old man takes me to court and I offer to pay him the ENTIRE AMOUNT OF $1700.00 but he said instead he wants my truck back. Of course he does... He took my truck as a trade in, sold it, took over $1500.00 cash from and then takes the truck back to resale and make more money. I didn't have a contract with Earl because I thought he was a honest man but I was wrong! HE IS A LIAR AND A THIEF! Do not buy a vehicle from this man unless you have a written contract, which I was told he doesn't do contracts so you are better off to not buy anything from this man!

I had the very same thing happen to me from this man! He is a thief and should be shut down by the law. He waits until you have the vehicle almost paid off and then takes it from you and resales it. Ridiculous!
What Happened to America ???
I read what others say about the Bill of Rights & The various Amendments but our Government does not abide by those same rights that are talked about in a matter of fact way by the media. We are told that we can or can't do this or that beacuse its un constitutional. The Federal Government, The washington DC talking heads go against everything this country stood for. So What Happened ??? We know that congress is corrupt with a whats in it for me attitude. We have two parties that tell us whats good for us and at the same time rob us of more each year.
Each new president blames the last guy for eveything and will not man up and tell the truth. They go on TV like some movie star and sound like used car salesmen. For some reason they have these minions that will talk loud and tell you that their the best thing sence sliced bread.
What we do know: I don't trust the President, The White House or Any Politician in Washington DC
I don't trust Congress or the senate
I don't trust the Supreme Court
State and Local Governments are tainted by the $$$ Washington bribes them with. So whats the answer???
THERE IS NO ANSWER, AT LEAST IN THIS OR THE NEXT TWO OR THREE LIFE TIMES unless the people of this country stop believing the Governments lies.
The next time you go to the airport and have to deal with the TSA ask yourself is this what the people in communist countries had to live with everyday? Our government takes more and more and tells us what to do more and more until maybe we will become one of those Communist Countries with our own dictator.

Vote No on Amendment One
In a recent letter to the editor published on 04/21/12 tittled ," Defending Traditional Marriage not Bigotry " , a reader gave his opinion on the relationship between marriage and poverty . The most recent US census statistics ( 2010 ) showed lower income levels of same sex couples when compared to heterosexual couples . Poverty levels are particularly higher among minority same sex couples living in rural areas . Homosexuals , lesbians , and transexuals have to deal with discrimination within their families, in their communities , educational facilities , workplace , and job market . Most states do not license same sex marriages . States , and the Federal goverment do not recognize same sex relationships for purposes of employee benefits . Same sex couples do not enjoy the legal , economic , health insurance , or tax benefits available for heterosexual married couples .It is a Self Fullfilling Prophecy . Well educated same sex couples who are professionals , or working well remunerated jobs do well economically , and are able to raise children as well as an heterosexual couple .
Many Christians form different denominations ( including catholics in spite the official position of the Catholic Dioceses in Raleigh ) are againts Amendment One . Jesus gave us a new commandment : " ...that you love one another ; just as I have loved you , you also are to love one another . By this all people will know that you are my disciples , if you have love for one another . " Gospel of John 13: 34-35 . Are we practicing what we preach when we intend to adopt a discriminatory amnedment in our constitution ? . A three judge panel of the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals delared California's Proposition 8 banning licensing of same sex marriages unconstitutional because it discriminates againts a minority for no compelling reason . The same will holds true of Amendment One if approved . The authors of the amendment added a " disclaimer " telling the courts that it " ... does'nt prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party nor does this section prohibits courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts . " Anticipating that this amendment will be taken to court , they have made obvious its discriminatory nature .
In my opinion , it would be immoral , and unchristian to vote for Amendment One . Vote No on Amendment One .

Sombody's going to get killed!
There needs to be a left turn arrow on the River Road/Pitts Chapel Road as it intersects the Weeksville road.
The boundary between city and county seems a little confused there, but whoever has jurisdiction needs to do something real soon about this dangerous intersection.

COA Aviation students
Being part of the start up aviation program at COA in Oct 09 was an exciting time for me. The program offered the opportunity to students to learn a skill valued by the aviation industry in the local area and possible employment within that skill set. It has been a long road, but the time spent in the classroom and shop is finally showing that it had merit. A local company has hired 3 new employees this week that were part of the early classes. I am very proud of these students and their determination to get into the aviation field and very grateful that the company has given them a step in the right direction.
US Postal Service
I wanted to set the record straight locally about the "red ink" of the US Postal Service. Much has been written about the Post Office losing money all of the time. What 99% of these articles do not address is the crushing Retiree health benefits pre-funding that was required by the US Congress in 2006. This requires that the US Postal Service pay out 75 years of benefits in a 10 year period. In essence, they are paying for retirees that have not even been born yet! NO other compnay is required to go to this extreme and the politicians are preying on this wanting to carve up the Post Office for their own gain. The figures just released for the most recent quarter showed 200 million in profits and 3.3 billion in red ink. 3.1 billion of this is attributed to the pre-funding retirement, which leaves 200 million in other red ink. Wonder of wonders, the USPS broke even! Not bad in this economy when the USPS is guaranteed universal service by the Constitution and is not mandated to make a profit! The next time you read about the USPS "losing" money, make sure they have all the facts presented. If not, then they are writing "half truths" to benefit their own agenda.

Ticket Revenue
If the ECPD ever needs to increase their traffic ticket revenue, please feel free to monitor the intersection of River Road/Pitts Chapel Road and Weeksville road. Every morning, as I wait for the light to change to allow me to proceed onto Weeksville road, I can be assured that there will be at least one red light runner who is so blatant, that not only will the light be red against them, but green for us, and I know better than to turn on to Weeksville road without looking to my right twice!
Leading By Example
I was reading Tuesday's sports section only to find that the local newspaper had combined Tuesday and Sunday's sports section. I am a teacher in the area and my students are required to read the local paper every day. My students wanted to know why are they required to proofread their work if such a public forum doesn't do the same.
Come on Daily Advance, you make it too easy to find examples of why you have to pay attention to detail. If I was watching ESPN it would sound something like "Come on Man!"
Sex Offender
Thank you Judge Jerry Tillett for releasing a known sex offender out, once again, on the streets of Elizabeth City. Pedophiles are by far one of the lowest forms of humanity, and yet he is free to prey on children once again. Is this what you call justice being served? I doubt the children that he has molested will agree with you.

Trick or Treating on Church and Main Streets
Halloween on Church and Main Streets is usually a fun time for my 10 year old daughter until she received a straw in her bag. She looks forward to seeing the costumes and her friends on the streets and getting CANDY. Her whole attitude changed when a certain lady on Church street placed a piece of candy in my 2 year old grandsons bucket and then looked at my daughter in a strange way then placed a drinking straw in her bag. My daughter was looking at it in shock. Why did I get a straw and my nephew get candy. She thought the lady didn't like her costume or her. We just looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders. She looks forward to Halloween every year and was totally disappointed just because of the one lady. What was the purpose of the straw? How many other children received straws? If it is too much to pass out candy then turn your light off and go inside. How could someone be so cold to do this to a child? I also understand that a lot of older children in EC go trick or treating. I am from Norfolk and it is a class 4 misdemenor if you are caught trick or treating over the age of 12. It is for little children and the older one need to be respectful of that. I saw kids that I knew that were 14, 15, 16 and 17 out trick or treating. This will be our last time going trick or treating on Main and Church.
Obama: Iraq War is Over
Obama brings the troops home from Iraq. On October 27th 2007, almost exactly 4 years ago Canidate Obama made a campaign promise. "I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am President, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." So Mr. President what happened to, "the first thing I will do" ? I took it to the bank, but the promise bounced!
Opposition to Barack Obama is not racist
I am so tired of hearing that everyone who opposes Barack Obama is a racist.
When I look at Barack Obama, i don't see a black man. I see a man carrying a great big bright red flag with a hammer and sickle on it. To continue to say that opposition to this Communist radical is racist is to utterly disdain the sacrifice of the thousands and thousands of real black men that have died trying to defend this country against exactly the ideology that Barack Obama represents. It is to declare vain the sacrifice of every single US serviceman and woman who has ever died trying to defeat tyrants and protect this country.

Any one who has experienced a true racist can see through these comments clearly. Sorry, but you are. And, how can a minister makes such horrible comments. You need to insert your own name instead of our President's. Who do you really serve?

In response to the above article, I say YES, we the people were responsible for executing convicted murderer Troy Davis. The execution took place as the direct result of the laws of our land. Mr. Davis was arrested, tried, and found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The sentence for his murderous act was execution.
No, I don't believe that we the people carried the power of life and death lightly, as gods, as you claim. However, we do have the responsibility to abide by the laws of our land, and the responsibility to face the legal consequences, regardless of severity, if we choose not to obey those laws.
You claim that seven witnesses recanted their testimonies, but you never mentioned arresting and trying those people for their self-admitted perjury. It looks like you're in favor of playing lightly with the laws in this case.
I do not believe that anger and humility have anything at all to do with the enforcement of the law, or the carrying out of a legally determined sentence. Mr. Davis chose to commit murder, reportedly smirking as he did so, and now Mr. Davis has paid the legal penalty of his actions.
Nags head casino
I read your article about the nags head casino with interest because when I was 17 years old in the summer of 1960 I spent all that summer working there setting up duck pins in the bowling alley as it was my first real job . I remember Ras Wescott and Bobby Roughton .We had free room & board on the other end of the dance hall & our own cook . We didn,t make much money and mostly it was tips which patrons would roll to us in coins down in the alleys after the games but after we were thru at night about midnite all the pinboys would get 2 free hotdogs and a drink and most nights we would walk across the back road to jockeys ridge with our beers and blankets and sleep on the ridge until the sun woke us up .My times have changed because in 1960 after labor day the beach just closed down for the winter because grays dept store was the only place open until spring > Earl Smith
