Spring is in the air and the colors are blooming- but not just outdoors. Clothing stores and boutiques are currently filling their racks with dresses, tank tops, and handbags, in an array of vibrant colors for the upcoming season.

If you're currently on a budget, searching for a new spring wardrobe may seem more cumbersome than exciting. With non flexible winter darks and neutrals taking up much of your closet space, you get the idea that you will need an entirely new wardrobe.

The idea that translating a wardrobe from season to season is expensive was somehow derived from women who are lucky enough shop without limitations; women who also over-do trends and splurge on many completely new outfits. The reality, however, is that a spring wardrobe is the least expensive to buy for because it is a transitional season. When you know what to carry over, buy, and splurge on, it is easy to refresh a winter wardrobe with style.

If in doubt, just follow the tips of a clothing store-owner. Cathy Munden, co-owner of the Shay Leslie Boutique in Elizabeth City, shares her tips.

"You have to know what stage you are buying for; whether you need pieces for work or something more casual. And always look for pieces that translate easily from day to night," says Munden.

For a budgeting woman, a few cotton T-shirts and tank tops in an array of colors or prints can be layered into many outfits to brighten things up a bit, and won't cost much more than $25 a piece.

For the clutch, handbag, and accessory obsessed, spring is the best time to indulge in these items because they are fairly inexpensive during this season, and come in an array of colors.

Assembling an exclusively color wardrobe isn't the only way to achieve spring style; why not carry over a few black pieces from winter?

"Though color is popular for spring, black and white will always be classic- no matter the season. And mixing colors with black and white looks really good as well," says Munden, placing a lipstick red tank over a pair of printed black slacks.

Seasonal trends come and go; so purchasing only a few trendy pieces that you love will save you from breaking the bank and decrease your risk of rapid thrift store donations.

The trends to look for this season are delicate or tribal clothing, which intermix quite well. Layering a light cardigan over a delicate, silky top with a tribal khaki pencil skirt is one way to mix the two trends.

If you want to splurge on something for spring, a piece that will be used constantly is the best way to go. Munden recommends two things worth putting in the extra dollar for.

"Good shoes, and a great handbag are the things to splurge on because these are things that women will wear every day, so they have to be comfortable and durable," says Munden.

Spring is an experimental season, so have fun refreshing your wardrobe. Simply adding pieces with color, experimenting with cheap trends, and splurging only key items, you are indeed capable of achieving the essence of spring style on a budget.
