The Daily Advance is published in Elizabeth City, N.C., and serves an area of five mostly rural counties in the northeastern corner of North Carolina. They include Currituck, Camden, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Chowan counties. Because of business and developmental links in the region, The Daily Advance coverage also frequently reaches into Gates and Dare counties.
The coverage area is bordered on the north by the thriving Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Va., metropolis, and on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and the resort Outer Banks.
The Daily Advance serves as the region's primary source of local news. Over the years, the paper and members of its staff have received numerous press awards from the N.C. Press Association and other press groups.
The Daily Advance is a part of Cox Newspapers group.
The newspaper was first published by founder, publisher and editor, Herbert Peele as a weekly in 1911. It became a daily newspaper in 1916.
The Daily Advance was preceded by many other Elizabeth City newspapers dating to 1805.
Today, the Daily Advance is a 12,000-circulation newspaper.
