Perqimans squandered a 16-point halftime lead, but regained its composure and went on to beat Northampton-East 30-28 in overtime Friday night to run its record to 2-0. Both teams scored a touchdown in the extra period, but the Pirates followed quarterback Cody Saunders’ sneak with a two-point conversion run by Saunders to decide the issue. Saunders hooked up with Mikel Harvey on a pair of touchdowns and scored on a short run as Perquimans took a 22-6 lead at the half. Then the roof fell in for the Pirates. “It was the worst third quarter I’ve ever seen us play,” said Perquimans coach T.J. Worrell as the Rams (2-0) stormed back to tie it. The Pirates will host Gates next Friday in one of only four home games they will play this season. Gates nipped Pasquotank 41-36 Friday. Riverside 34, Edenton 13: The Aces fell to 1-1 after losing on the road. No details were reported. Southwest Edgecombe 61, Currituck 7: The home field wasn’t worth much to the Knights, who fell to 0-2, but did manage to score their first touchdown of the season. No details were reported.
