Northeastern and Pasquotank swept the major Northeastern Coastal Conference basketball awards.

In a balloting of league coaches, Aaron Carver of Northeastern, a junior forward, was voted the Player of the Year for boys and Mikeara Jordan of Pasquotank, a junior guard, earned the Player of the Year award for girls.

Ronald Nixon of Northeastern and Janie Cofield, who led their teams to NCC regular season titles, were voted Coach of the Year for boys and girls, respectively.

It is the second-straight conference honor for Cofield, who guided the Lady Panthers (24-2) to an unbeaten NCC regular season and tournament championship as well as a third-round 2A state playoff berth.

Nixon also guided the Eagles (23-5), who finished second in the conference tournament, to the third round of the 2A state playoffs.

Aaron Carver led a contingent of four Eagles on the all-conference team. Younger brother, freshman Trey, was also picked, along with Travis McWilliams and Marquis Whidbee.

Aaron Carver and Whidbee, a senior guard, were voted to the first team; Trey Carver, a freshman swingman, to the second and McWilliams, a junior guard, made the third team.

Other locals on the All-NCC boys team included sophomore guard Kyheem Stanley and senior forward DaeDae Capehart of Edenton, both named to the second team; and James Martin, a senior guard, and Darrin White, a senior forward, of Pasquotank; and Currituck senior forward Alex Sample of Currituck, all voted to the third team.

Pasquotank had four girls named to the all-conference squad. Joining Jordan on the first team was junior forward Chelsey Elliott. Senior guard Tyanna Green was voted to the second team and senior center Dottie Elliott to the third team.

Northeastern had three girls honored: Junior guard Te’a Moore-Carver (first team), senior forward Taylor Jernigan (second team) and freshman guard Aleah McNeal (third team).

Edenton had two selections: senior guard Zikia Leary (second team) and sophomore guard Hadiya Bembry (third team).

Currituck senior forward Kayla Powell was named to the second team.
