CAMDEN — The Camden Bruins advanced to the third round of the 1A playoffs by defeating the Louisburg Warriors, 7-3. The Bruins combined consistent pitching and hitting to get the win.
"This was a good game for us," Camden coach Mickey Drew said. "Our pitchers Chase Riggs and Cory Plymel did a great job on the mound of keeping Louisburg off balance."

Riggs got the start for Camden (15-7) and came out strong, retiring the Warriors in order to start the game. Austin Jennings gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice RBI in the bottom of the first.
Louisburg (19-5) responded in the third with four consecutive hits to take a 2-1 lead. Camden battled back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at two on an RBI single by Zach Leslie.
In the top half of the fifth the Warriors took a 3-2 lead on a wild pitch, but again Camden responded. Plymel tied the game by driving in Ricky Krainiak with his second triple of the game. Zach Leslie and Kevin Curtis added back-to-back RBIs to put Camden ahead for good, 5-3 after the fifth inning.
The Bruins came out hot in the bottom of the sixth with four consecutive hits to stretch the lead to 7-3.
Plymel came in to pitch and closed out the game. The Bruins' seniors stepped up at every opportunity. Riggs and Plymel controlled the Louisburg hitters from the mound. Plymel, Jennings and Leslie all contributed with their bats.
"Cory Plymel, Austin Jennings and Zach Leslie, all seniors carried us at the plate tonight," Drew said. "Defensively as a group we didn't play as well as we wanted to, but we played well enough in big spots and made the plays we needed to."
Plymel went 4-for-4 with two triples and two RBIs to lead the Bruins at the plate. Leslie was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in the win.
Louisburg coach Al Bolton congratulated Camden after the game.
"They played well and made the plays when they had to," Bolton said. "They put the pressure on us and we didn't respond by playing like we have all year and that is something you have to do at this time of the year against good teams."
Camden will play host to Princeton in a third round game Friday at 6 p.m.
