As with most professional sports fans in this area, in order to see your favorites, you have to travel for hours and hours to see them.

On Apr. 19-21, however, the PBA Regional Tour will allow local bowlers and fans of the PBA to be able to see their favorites without the extensive travel.

The Bowling Center in Rocky Mount will be hosting the South Region PBA members in one of their weekly regional tournaments, and with it will feature a weekend full of fun.

With the regional comes the infamous Pro-Am that is held before most PBA tournaments, allowing amateur bowlers to lace up along side the pros and bowl in doubles format in a tournament. Also on the opening day will be a Charity Baker Team Shootout that will be held between Pro-Am squads.

On Apr. 20 there will be morning and afternoon squads of qualifying for the main tournament, but the real fun comes after the bowling stops.

That evening, The Bowling Center will be hosting a Celebrity Cornhole Tournament, allowing entrants to team up with a pro bowler in the event. Following the event there will be live music and lots of food, with everything raising money for American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

One thing that is slightly different from most professional sporting events, though, is that amateurs do have the opportunity to bowl in the main event with the pros, and there are expected to be some locals travelling to the tournament, giving you plenty of hometown favorites to root for, including yours truly.

If you are interested at all in the event, including discounts on places to stay specifically for the tournament, give Chris Hans a call at The Bowling Center in Rocky Mount, or you can visit www.pbatour.com and look under the regional tour for information. Hope to see you there.

This week, since it is a little more than half way through the Winter League season, I thought I would mention the league leaders for each league instead of individual honors.

MONDAY NIGHT MIXED

So far this season, it is the Frozen Ropes leading, but only slightly, over the teams of 3 Queens and as King, and Young and the Restless. With a position round coming next week, this is sure to tighten things up even more.

ALL AMERICAN LADIES

The team known as Hunx has the lead in this league, but only by a mere game and a half over the Bowling Buddies. Within Striking distance however, are any one of the top nine teams, with 13 points separating 1st from 9th place.

ALBEMARLE ROLLERS

This league may be the closest of all, with Schoolhouse leading the Specializers by only a half of a game and Smiling Faces only 5 more back. This league could very easily come down the final pin this season.

MARTIN LUTHER
KING LEAGUE

Team 9 as the point this quarter so far, leading Bucky Lastards by a game and Kucky 7 by 3.

With this league split into quarters, all three are fighting for a spot in the roll offs.

FRIDAY NIGHT MIXED

With only a couple of weeks to go this quarter, Country Folks and Lavanas Angels are tied and see to have made this a two horse race for a spot in this league’s roll off.

We Are Rookies and The Celebrities are mathematically still in it, but it will take some help on the part of the top two.

FELLOWSHIP
MEMORIAL LEAGUE

This third quarter as been a close one, and with the possibility of 30 points per night in this league format, the leaders, 3 Men and a Baby have to keep the pedal to the metal as they are only 5 points ahead of Team 4 and 16 points ahead of Lightning Strikes.
