Dinterman wins 5th BAR in six years

From sports reports

Thursday, October 02, 2008

Local bicycle racing Team Le Bleu Water/Nature’s Pearl has continued its winning ways on the North Carolina and Virginia racing scene with several members collecting top places in recent events.

Defending Pro 1/2 Champion Gene Fowler followed his 2007 Championship with a solid 2008 campaign in which he finished second, with wins in Richmond, Va., at the Go Fast race series in the 40+ Masters race and the Langley Farm Bureau Criterium. Fowler also posted top-10 finishes in the Pro 1/2 races at the Coastal Criterium, Go Fast #3, Roanoke Criterium, Richmond TNP Time Trail, and the Peter Teeuwen Memorial Time Trials. Fowler heads into the final race of the year in second place in the 2008 Pro 1/2 title hunt.

Currituck County resident Rob Dinterman locked up the 2008 30+ Masters Championship, giving him his fifth overall Virginia Best All Around Racer (BAR) title in the last six years.

Dinterman, one of the best all around racers in the region, recently posted a win at the Casey Criterium to go along with numerous second place finishes in criteriums, hill climbs, and time trials, as well as 12 top-5 finishes throughout the year.

Time Trial specialist, Robert Garwood, a general surgeon from the Charlottesville area, has collected wins this year at the Virginia State Time trial championship and the Peter Teeuwen Memorial Time Trials, to go along with his top 10 result at Nationals this year.

Other local racers Terry Lovell, Danny Glover and Phillip Johnson have had excellent seasons with more than 20 top 10 finishes between them.

“We have a solid team from top to bottom, with any of our guys being able to win on any given day” said Fowler. “We have had great support from our sponsors Le Bleu Water, Natures Pearl, Final Kick, Biggs Pontiac, and Teague and Glover Law Firm (obxtrafficticket.com).”

Team Le Bleu Water/Nature’s Pearl races out of Final Kick Sports in Virginia Beach and races on Cervelo bicycles and Zipp wheels.
