HAMPTON, Va -- Scoring all of their runs in the fifth inning, the Edenton Steamers nipped the Peninsula Pilots 3-2 at War Memorial Stadium Thursday to extend their winning streak to 12 games.

The Steamers (17-1 second half, 36-9 overall) can tie the club record for consecutive games won Friday in Florence. The 2004 Steamers won 13 in a row.

Another streak survived against the Pilots when Steamers second baseman Joe Wendle banged out two hits to make it 18 consecutive games in which he has collected at least one hit.

Trailing 2-0, the visiting Steamers combined three hits with two Peninsula errors in the top of the fifth to take a one-run lead that would stand up the rest of the way as Adam Giacalone, Dustin Quattrocchi, Jordan Egan and Ethan Cole allowed only one hit and  two walks over the last three innings.

Egan pitched out of a two-on, nobody out jam in the eighth by striking out three Pilots.

Cole, who fanned the final two batters, picked up save No. 10.

Kevin Whitehead started the winning rally by getting hit by a pitch leading off the inning. Brett Christopher singled, and following a error by the third baseman, Bo Bigham singled up the middle to draw the Steamers to within 2-1. Two batters later, Zach Stewart singled to load the bases. Brian Blasik's sacrifice fly then tied it at 2-2.

Edenton got the winning run when Bigham stole third and came home on a throwing error by the catcher.

Starting pitcher Jordan Glover improved to 4-1 with a strong outing. He pitched six innings and gave up two runs on four hits and two walks.

Bigham and Vinnie Mejia had two hits for the winners.
