WILSON — Jonathan Sanchez pitched eight innings of shutout ball and the Edenton Steamers continued to extend their team record for victories in a season with a 6-0 road win over the Wilson Tobs Sunday night.
Sanchez allowed only three hits and a walk in running his record to 3-0 since joining the team several weeks ago.
Dustin Quattrocchi and David Teasley completed the shutout by pitching a scoreless ninth.
The win improved the Steamers to 23-3 in the second half and 42-11 overall. It also eliminated Wilson from playoff contention. Edenton will be the top seed in the Petitt Cup playoffs, which begin Thursday.
Vinnie Mejia’s single in the second inning gave the Steamers the only run they’d need.
Brett Christopher drove in two runs with two hits. Zach Stewart had two hits and knocked in a run.
The Steamers, the top-ranked college summer league team in the country, close out the regular season by hosting Wilson Monday and Outer Banks Tuesday.
