EDENTON — The Edenton Steamers will be coached by a familiar face next summer.
Steve Moritz, who served as an assistant coach under Dirk Kinney on a Steamers team that set a franchise record for victories this past season, has accepted the head coaching position. Moritz is an assistant coach at Georgia College and State University who has also coached at Darton College and Middle Georgia College.
“I am extremely excited about returning to Edenton next summer,” Moritz said in a press release. “Last summer was one the Steamer family will never forget ... We did a lot of special things, won a ton of games, broke individual and team records, accomplished numerous goals and, although we fell one game short of hoisting the Petitt Cup, became part of a truly unique experience.”
Moritz was the hitting coach for the Steamers, Under his guidance Edenton set four Coastal Plain League offensive records and seven franchise records.
“I am extremely happy to bring ‘Coach Mo’ back for the 2012 season,” Steamers general manager Chip Pruden said in the press release. “He has the experience and knows how to put runs on the board while winning.
“He’s a people person who gets along well with everyone in the community. He is the perfect fit for us next year.”
