KILL DEVIL HILLS -- The Edenton Steamers rapped 13 hits in a 10-1 win over the Outer Banks Daredevils Thursday night.

Unfortunately, none of them belonged to Joe Wendle.

The Steamers second baseman went 0-for-5 as he saw his 21-game hitting streak -- believed to be the longest in Coastal Plain League history -- come to an end.

The oh-fer dropped Wendle's league-leading batting average to .409. Second-place Chase McDonald of Morehead City is hitting .402.

While that may have been a bit of a downer for Wendle, the good news is that the win was the 39th of the year for the Steamers, tying a team record set in 2007.

The Steamers (20-2 second half, 39-10 overall), the top-ranked summer college league team in the nation, can break the victory record tonight when they host Wilson.

There were plenty of good performances for Edenton.

Winning pitcher Jordan Glover (5-1) went seven innings, scattering seven hits and two walks and allowing the lone Daredevils' run; Eddie Perkins threw two innings of hitless relief, Tim Saunders drove in four runs with two hits, Brian Blasik had two RBIs and two hits, Zach Stewart and Ryan Brenner collected two hits, Bo Bigham knocked in two runs and Adam Giacalone hit his team-best seventh home run.

The 10-run outing also enabled the Steamers to set a franchise record for runs in a season (330) with six games still to play. The 2007 team held the previous mark of 321 runs.
