Hurricane Summary POSTED: May 24, 2012 8:57 a.m.
Watching the Northwest Caribbean
A broad area of low pressure over western Cuba will track to the northeast across the western Bahamas over the next couple of days. It will cause locally heavy rain from Cuba and far South
Florida into the northern Bahamas. We do not expect this low to develop much over the next couple of days due to hostile shear aloft. There is a slight chance that conditions will become somewhat
more favorable for development over the weekend, so this system will need to be closely monitored.
Elsewhere, no other tropical systems are expected to develop over the next 48-72 hours. The Atlantic tropical season officially begins on June 1.
