SQVFD project nearing completion

SQVFD Project

A community-outreach project that the Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department (SQVFD) took on almost three years ago moved closer to completion with the installation of the last two park benches. In April 2018, the SQVFD began raising funds to build a permanent display for the old Hyde County Courthouse bell that first hung outside the Historic 1857 Courthouse in Swan Quarter during the 1920-30s. Part of the fund-raising included an opportunity for sponsorship of park benches “In Honor Of” or “In Memory Of” someone designated by the sponsor. A total of nine benches have been installed around the brick display which is in the greenway between the current Hyde County Government Center and the old Courthouse on Oyster Creek Road in Swan Quarter. A few tasks, including a time capsule to be sealed in one corner of the display, are scheduled to be completed by April.
