CAMDEN — Six months after former Camden economic development director Charlie Bauman left to take a job in Virginia Beach, Virginia, county officials are still trying to find the right person to succeed him.
“We’ve had a couple of interviews,” Camden County Manager Ken Bowman said Monday, Jan. 13. “We just didn’t really have the right applicants for the position at that time.”
Bowman said the county will re-advertise the position in 30-45 days.
“It’s not going to be left vacant,” Bowman said. “It’s still in the budget and it’s still going to be in the budget next year.”
Bauman is currently business development manager in the Economic Development Office of the city of Virginia Beach. In that role he provides business relocation and expansion assistance with special attention to the maritime and logistics, manufacturing, cyber, and real estate development business sectors.
Bowman said when Bauman took the Virginia Beach job last June he indicated it would be more convenient for him because it’s closer to his home.
Bauman worked for Camden about seven years.
Bowman noted that Bauman had been instrumental in recruiting the new Chesapeake Regional health clinic in Camden, which is expected to announce a grand opening soon.
