EDENTON — A Chowan County man known for selling produce from his home along N.C. Highway 32 died Sunday evening in a single-vehicle accident on the road.
Chadwick “Chad” Copeland was driving northbound on N.C. Highway near a bridge at Floyd’s Corner when his vehicle crossed the center line, ran off the roadway and hit several trees, Trooper T.P. Shepherd said.
Copeland was dead when troopers arrived, Shepherd said.
While it was raining when Copeland’s vehicle left the roadway, it is not known whether weather was a factor in the accident, Shepherd said.
Copeland ran a popular produce stand, CC’s Produce, at his property near the Center Hill/Crossroads area. He was known for producing strawberries, watermelons and pumpkin.
According to his obituary, he was 49 and lived in the 2300 block of Virginia Road.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Smith Copeland; a son, Joshua Edward Copeland; three stepchildren, Shelby, Katie and Hunter; his parents, James Kenneth Copeland Jr. and Constance Boyce Copeland; and a brother, Kenny Copeland.
A funeral service for Copeland will be held in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Friday at 2 p.m.
