CAMDEN — Law enforcement officials are investigating the cause of a fire at a fire station in Camden late Thursday that damaged both the station building and an emergency vehicle.

Christy Saunders, Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Management coordinator, said in a press release that the 911 Center received a call at 9:43 p.m. Thursday reporting a fire at the South Camden Fire Station at 114 Sawyers Creek Road.

When firefighters arrived, they found the fire contained to the truck bay of the station, Saunders said. Damages to both a vehicle and the building are being assessed and an investigation into the fire’s cause is underway, she said.

Besides members of South Camden Fire Department Stations 11 & 12, other agencies responding to the fire included the Elizabeth City Fire Department, South Mills Volunteer Fire Department, Crawford Volunteer Fire Department and Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Medical Services, Saunders said.
