CURRITUCK — A Moyock woman has been charged with being on the campus of Moyock Middle School while being a registered sex offender.
Deborah Dawn Underwood, 38, of Tulls Creek Road, was arrested May 22 and charged with being on a school premises despite being registered as a sex offender, according to the arrest report filed by the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.
The offense occurred on May 17 when Underwood was found to be on the premises of Moyock Middle School, according to the sheriff’s office. Underwood was not on the campus in any official capacity as a volunteer or employee, according to the sheriff’s office.
State records indicate Underwood was convicted of taking indecent liberties with a student in August 2013. The offense occurred in January 2012, according to records.
The student was 17-years-old, and Underwood was 31-years-old at the time of the offense, according to state records.
The Daily Advance reported in July 2013 that Underwood had been indicted by a grand jury in Currituck on charges of sexual activity with a male student while employed as a substitute teacher at Currituck County High School in the 2011-2012 school year.
Underwood taught at Gates County High School during the 2012-13 school year before being indicted by the grand jury, the Daily Advance reported in 2013.
