The Albemarle School varsity basketball teams will compete in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1A state playoffs today.
The NCISAA released basketball state playoff brackets Sunday.
The Albemarle School boys’ basketball team (13-8) will face Greenville’s John Paul II Catholic High School (14-12) in a first round game at 6:30 p.m. at John Paul II.
The Saints finished third in the Coastal Plain Independent Conference during the season.
Jaylin Daniels leads John Paul II in scoring with a 15.5 points per game average.
Amir Ross is second with a 13.4 points per game average, while Jordan Yarrell is third on the team in scoring with a 12.5 points per game average.
Ross also averages just over 10 rebounds per game this season.
Albemarle School finished fourth in the Tarheel Independent Conference during the regular season.
The Colts have been led this season by Logan Dunn who averages just over 21.3 points per game with 3.9 assists per game.
Avery Krywanczyk is second on the team in scoring with an 18.2 points per game average, while Brandon Jackson is third with a 10.2 points per game average this season.
Today’s game is the second consecutive season both teams will play in the first round of the state playoffs.
The Saints beat the Colts 94-68 in last season’s state playoff contest.
The Albemarle School girls’ basketball team (4-17) will take on TIC foe Pungo Christian Academy (18-7) in a first round state playoff game today at 6 p.m. at Pungo Christian.
Pungo Christian won both regular season contests against Albemarle School.
Second round state playoff games are scheduled to play Thursday.
