Edenton Steamers’ Ian Walters was an all-star during the team’s 2019 Coastal Plain League season last year.

As one of the newest members of the Tidewater Summer League, the Edenton Steamers will be hosting the league’s all-star game in the middle of the 2020 season.

The 2020 Tidewater Summer League All-Star Game will be held at Historic Hicks Field on July 5.

Planned for the day is a Fan Fest, a Home Run Derby that the club plans to add local twists to, followed by the game.

“The Steamers are very excited to have the opportunity to host the TSL All Star Game this summer. We look forward to putting together a full day of fun events at the ballpark for all of our fans,” Steamers general manager Tyler Russell said.

It will be the first time Edenton has hosted an all-star game since hosting the Coastal Plain League event in 2001.

"The Tidewater Summer League is excited to have the Edenton Steamers host the 2020 All-Star Game at Historic Hicks Field," Tidewater Summer League commissioner Michael Dooley said in a statement Thursday. "With a great venue, enthusiastic fans and an outstanding ownership group and management team, we are confident that our 2020 All Star Celebration will be an exciting, fun filled day and we are looking forward to working with the Steamers staff as we prepare for what will undoubtedly be THE baseball event of the summer."

The Steamers’ first season as part of the TSL and with new head coach Marshall McDonald begins Tuesday, May 26, on the road in Tarboro.
