Northeastern’s Kaveon Freshwater (top) had over 110 total tackles during the 2019 high school football season.

A Northeastern High School football player was named to a MaxPrep.com All-American team Wednesday.

Kaveon Freshwater, a sophomore defensive lineman, was named to the website’s sophomore All-American second team.

Freshwater, listed at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, was credited with over 110 total tackles with 24 sacks during the 2019 high school football season with the Eagles.


John A. Holmes 79, Northeastern 49: The John A. Holmes High School boys’ basketball team defeated Northeastern Thursday night at John A. Holmes High School in Edenton.

Holmes (11-0) was led by Mitjonta Stanley, who scored a game-high 31 points with six assists, and five steals, Keenan Downing followed with 17 points and seven rebounds.

Jewell Coston had 10 points, four assists with three steals, Kendrick Armstead had nine points with three rebounds, Tyree Capehart had four points, Keimonte Raynor posted two points and seven rebounds, Jacob Colon, Malachi White and Teddy Wilson scored two points each in the win.

Northeastern (1-6) was led by Deandre Proctor who scored 15 points, Dashaun Felton posted 11 points, Sincer McCauley had seven points, Tashar McCray and Zaki Evans had six points each, while Zamir McClease and Paul Godfrey scored two points each.


John A. Holmes 44, Northeastern 31: The Aces (8-4) defeated the visiting Eagles (2-6) Thursday at John A. Holmes High School.
