Currituck County is hosting state championship tournaments across four age divisions.

Currituck and Camden counties are hosting the 2019 Tarheel Leagues girls' softball state championship tournaments this weekend.

Tournament play began Thursday and is scheduled to conclude Sunday.

Currituck County is hosting games at Currituck Community Park, while Camden County is staging contests at Camden Community Park.

The tournaments features young athletes in the under-8 competition, under-10 competition, under-12 competition and under-15 competition.

Currituck had teams competing in the 8U and 10U tournaments.

Camden is represented in the 12U tournament, while Edenton has a team in the 10U tournament.

Despite the extreme temperatures Friday, the players had cooling towels, shade in the dugouts and liquids to help beat the heat.

Temperatures in the area were over 90 degrees Friday afternoon.

Games continue today at both sites beginning at 10 a.m.

Admission-Day Pass: Adults $6, students 12 and under are $4 and children 4 and under are free.
